• From «take-use-dispose» to circular economy

Our economic system still largely operates according to the following model: extract resources, manufacture products, use them, and then dispose of them. This linear logic is not sustainable: it wastes raw materials, fuels climate change, and harms the environment and society.

The circular economy, as defined by the renowned Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF), offers an alternative concept: a regenerative system based on three fundamental principles:

    1. Preventing waste and emissions
    2. Keeping products and materials in circulation
    3. Regenerating nature

As a technology for decentralized power generation, the Vertical Sky® wind turbine is an important part of the circular economy and puts these principles into practice in an optimal way. How exactly? The following sections explain.

    1. Avoid waste and emissions

Designing products and production processes in such a way that waste and pollution are prevented from arising in the first place – that is the primary principle of EMF. In the case of Vertical Sky®, this looks like this:

    • CO₂-free on-site power generation: The turbine utilizes wind as a natural, renewable resource. Companies thus draw less power from fossil fuel sources and consequently generate fewer emissions such as CO₂, nitrogen oxides, or ash.
    • Short energy cycles: As an on-site solution, Vertical Sky® delivers energy where it is consumed, without detours via power grids. This reduces transmission losses and decreases the need for material-intensive grid infrastructures and long-distance pipelines.
    • Energy cascade: Production surpluses can be stored locally or reused – for example, in batteries, for heat pumps, or with power-to-X applications.
    • Integration into more extensive recycling concepts: Companies that already optimize material and product cycles (e.g., through recycling) can also use Vertical Sky® to sustainably cover the energy requirements for processing and transport. This creates an all-round circular system – in terms of both energy and materials.
    • Low wear and maintenance: Vertical Sky® is designed for low wear and maintenance operation. This significantly reduces downtime, effort, and resource consumption.
    • Resource-saving logistics and assembly: Vertical Sky® is assembled from prefabricated, easy-to-transport elements. The assembly work is optimized to a minimum. This saves primary energy and reduces construction site waste.

    2. Keeping materials in circulation

Products should last as long as possible and be reused in a meaningful way at the end of their life. This principle is also implemented at Vertical Sky®:

    • Durability: The turbine is designed to operate for at least 25 years.
Modularity and dismantlability: Individual parts such as lattice tower segments or rotor blades can be assembled, dismantled, and recycled separately.
    • High recycling rate: 85–95% of the materials used can be recycled.
    • Upcycling potential: The less stressed rotor blades suffer significantly less erosion and do not need to be replaced during their service life. Material reuse, for example in the concrete industry, is possible. Initial projects for rotor blade pyrolysis are already underway.

    3. Regenerating nature

The third EMF principle aims to ensure that economic activity has a positive or at least neutral impact on ecosystems. Vertical Sky® scores highly in this area too:

    • 100% renewable energy source: Wind is available in unlimited quantities – unlike fossil fuels, which also require considerable effort to extract.
    • Minimal space requirements: Vertical Sky®’s compact design and low noise emissions allow it to be used in urban, already developed areas without sealing additional land.
    • Direct climate benefit: Each installed system reduces the demand for climate-damaging electricity and thus saves approximately 1,000 tons of CO₂ annually over its lifetime.

In this way, Agile Wind Power actively contributes not only to preserving natural resources, but also to relieving pressure on them and strengthening them in the long term.

Conclusion: Vertical Sky® gets the circular economy moving

Vertical Sky® shows that the future of energy supply is not only decentralized and clean, but also circular. The wind turbine combines high technical efficiency with consistent implementation of circular economy principles. This not only generates electricity, but also contributes to a renewable economy and a livable future.
