The model of the Vertical Sky® turbine in the wind tunnel. The conical rotor blades are tested here for the first time.
The second series of measurements in the wind tunnel for the Vertical Sky® wind turbine was successfully completed and marks a significant step in the development of the vertical axis wind turbine. The AWP team conducted this series of measurements to verify the calculated assumptions and to identify innovative concepts for safe operation of the turbine.
In addition to evaluating safe operating conditions, a key focus of this test series was the use of revised rotor blades, with the intent of optimizing and stabilizing the behavior of the turbine. Successful implementation of these improvements promises to increase the safety of the turbine. The results of these measurements are extremely promising and confirm the previous calculations.
The analysis of the wind tunnel data shows that the modified rotor blades are able to minimize the loads and turbulence during the operation of the turbine. This is critical to optimize the overall performance of the wind turbine while ensuring safety. The AWP team is working to further leverage these findings and expand knowledge of effective and safe turbine operation.
